MEA IT Strategy & Modernization provides fractional technology leadership for growing small and mid-sized organizations that need stronger technology strategy, operational oversight, and executive guidance.

Whether you have an internal IT team, an MSP, or both, MEA works alongside your existing resources to align technology with business priorities, manage cost and risk, guide modernization, and prepare your organization for what's next.

Your business may have outgrown the way IT is being led.

Your technology team may be doing a good job keeping the business running. But as an organization grows, the questions change.

Which technology investments should come first? Are you spending in the right places? Is the environment resilient enough for the business? Is your MSP delivering what you need? What should move to the cloud—and what shouldn't? Where could AI provide real value? What technology capabilities will the business need two or three years from now?

Those aren't simply technical questions.

They're business decisions that require technology leadership.

MEA helps executives answer those questions and turn the answers into practical priorities and action.

Fractional Technology Leadership

Executive technology leadership that fits the needs of your business.

Not every growing organization needs a full-time CIO. But many reach a point where technology requires more strategic leadership than day-to-day IT management alone can provide.

MEA provides fractional CIO-level leadership that can work alongside your existing IT manager, director, internal technology team, MSP, or other technology partners.

Depending on your needs, that can include technology strategy and roadmaps, budgeting and investment planning, vendor and MSP oversight, organizational development, risk and resilience, governance, modernization planning, executive reporting, and leadership of significant technology initiatives.

You may not need to replace your IT team. You may need to give them experienced executive technology leadership.

Technology leadership supported by real operating experience

MEA doesn't approach technology solely from an advisory perspective.

Founder Michael Ashton is a former CIO and enterprise technology executive with more than three decades of progressive technology leadership experience across local government, biopharmaceutical and regulated life sciences, and data center/cloud managed services environments. His leadership experience includes a 120-person technology organization supporting five data centers, a 28-member public-sector IT organization, global infrastructure and technology services across more than 19 manufacturing, laboratory, commercial, and corporate locations, and technology budgets up to $10 million.

That experience spans strategy and governance, infrastructure and cloud, service delivery, cybersecurity and risk, business resilience, applications, financial management, vendors and sourcing, acquisitions and divestitures, and organizational development.

The focus has consistently been on translating technology into business outcomes.

Selected outcomes

  • 18% cloud-cost reduction through hybrid-cloud workload-placement decisions.
  • 50% reduction in network circuit costs through modernization across 19+ sites.
  • 99.999% availability while major incidents were reduced by 80%.

Where MEA can help

Fractional technology leadership is supported by deeper capabilities in three areas.

IT Strategy & Executive Advisory

Translate business priorities into technology strategy.

MEA helps leadership evaluate technology needs, establish priorities, develop roadmaps, assess investments, improve governance, and make technology decisions based on business value, risk, and total cost.

Infrastructure & Cloud Modernization

Modernize with purpose.

Evaluate cloud and workload placement, infrastructure, networks, resilience, operational performance, lifecycle risk, vendors, and cost to determine what should change—and what shouldn't.

AI Readiness & Governance

Move from AI interest to informed action.

MEA helps leadership identify where AI may create business value, assess organizational readiness and risk, establish practical governance, and prioritize the next steps without adopting technology simply because it's new.

Not sure what you need yet?

Start with a Technology Decision & Readiness Review.

You don't need to know whether you need a fractional CIO, modernization program, new technology platform, or different operating model before talking with MEA.

The Technology Decision & Readiness Review provides a focused, independent assessment of the technology decision or challenge in front of your organization.

Depending on the situation, the review can include:

  • Current-state assessment and readiness gaps
  • Material technology and operational risks
  • Options and tradeoffs
  • Cost and value considerations
  • Recommended direction
  • Prioritized 90-day actions

The result is an executive-level view of where you are, where the material gaps are, and what should happen next.

An independent perspective

MEA isn't tied to a particular technology platform, product, MSP, or predetermined solution.

Recommendations begin with the business: what you're trying to accomplish, what's preventing you from getting there, what risks need to be managed, what capabilities you already have, and what investment makes sense.

Sometimes the answer is new technology.

Sometimes it's better governance, clearer accountability, stronger vendor management, or improving what you already have.

The objective isn't more technology. It's better technology decisions.
